Preacher: The Revd. Robert Lawson Today we switch from St. Mark’s Gospel to St. John’s Gospel. We hear the story of the Feeding of the 5000, a story common to all four gospels. This leads us into the dialogues on the “Bread of Life” in the coming weeks. Morning and Evening Prayer will not be said regularly in St. John’s during this fortnight.

Preacher: The Revd. Robert Lawson “...Wherever he went, into villages or cities or farms, they laid the sick in the market-places, and begged him that they might touch even the fringe of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed.” Mk. 6:56 Sung Eucharist 11 a.m.
“He destined us for adoption as his children, through Jesus Christ according to the good pleasure of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace that he freely bestowed on us in the beloved.” Ephesians 1: 5,6 Sung Eucharist 11 a.m.
Jesus comes to his own town and teaches in the synagogue there. His former neighbours are confused - “Where did this man get all this?” They ask. They see him as ‘one of theirs’, “Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Jude and Simon, and are not his sisters here with us?” Jesus was amazed at their unbelief, he could do no deed of power there, except he laid his hadns on a few sick people and cured them. |
