We are delighted that Mr Eoghan Ward will be the next organist at St. John’s. Eoghan is a music graduate and former Organ Scholar of Trinity College. He was organist at St. John’s some years ago; since then, among other duties, he has been organist at the Three Patrons Church in Rathgar and Assistant Organist of St. Bartholomew’s Church in Ballsbridge. We hope he will start at St. John’s in the near future and we look forward to welcoming him back.

Sung Eucharist 11 a.m.
Jesus continues to teach his disciples about the nature of discipleship. Jesus said, “no one who does a deed of power in my name will be able soon afterwards to speak evil of me. Whoever is not against us is for us.” Sung Eucharist 11 a.m.
We have skipped a bit in our following of St. Mark’s Gospel; the story of the Transfiguration was read back before Lent. We are now on the road to Jerusalem. Jesus continues to teach his disciples what it means for him to be the Messiah, and what it means for them to be citizens of his kingdom. “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all” Sung Eucharist 11 a.m.
followed by a farewell presentation to Mrs. Edna Wakely. This Sunday's Gospel reading marks a pivotal moment in Jesus’ ministry and also in the structure of St. Mark’s Gospel. On the way to the village of Caesarea Philippi Jesus asks his diciples, “Who do people say I am?” After hearing their response he asks them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter responds, “You are the Messiah.” On Sunday 16th September we will be saying “Farewell” to our organist. Mrs. Edna Wakely has been playing the organ at St. John’s for some 11 years. She is leaving us on Sunday as she will be ordained Deacon that afternoon. She will be serving as Intern Deacon in the Parish of Drumcondra and North Strand with Canons Roy Byrne and Aisling Shine.
We will be wishing Edna well at a party on Saturday evening and a presentation on Sunday morning. Our prayers and best wishes go with her as she begins her ordained ministry. Daily Prayer is a regular part of the life of St. John’s. However university study commitments for Fr. Paul mean that it will not be possible to say Evening Prayer regularly on Tuesday and Thursdays in St. John’s during term-time.
In term-time Morning Prayer will still be said at 8.30 a.m. Tuesday to Friday, usually around 9 a.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday. Evening Prayer will normally be said at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. |
