1916 Tales from St John’s, Sandymount
Only two weeks to go to Heritage Week and there will be interesting displays at St John’s on Dr Charles De Burgh Daly who was fired on by Countess Markievicz , missing him by an inch, and Cathal MacDowell, former organist at St John’s, who wrote the first arrangement of the National Anthem. ‘Portals of Unpreparedness’, a story told through words, maps and watercolours of the arrival of the Sherwood Foresters in Kingstown (Dun Laoghaire), and their march to Dublin and the Battle of Mount Street Bridge, will also be on display. It is the work of artist Peter Derbyshire and writer Leo Cullen.
