Giotto - the entry into Jerusalem
11 a.m. Palm Procession, Proclamation of the Passion according to St. Mark and Solemn Eucharist.

Palm or Passion Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week, the focus of the Christian Year. We hear the story of Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey, surrounded by cheering crowds. And in contrast we hear the Passion read from St. Mark’s Gospel.

Sunday 18th March - 4th Sunday in Lent (Mothering Sunday)

Solemn Eucharist 11 a.m.

This Sunday marks the mid-point of Lent. “Refreshment Sunday” is a day when the discipline of Lent is relaxed for the day. Rose vestments may be worn (and will be at St. John’s). The Sunday is known as “Laetare” from the first words, Laetare Jerusalem, Rejoice, O Jerusalem, of the introit (introductory verse of scripture) in the Latin Mass.

It's not clear how “Mothering Sunday” came about, it is separate from the American introduction of “Mothers’ Day”, but isn’t mentioned in the 1662 Book of Common Prayer. It grew mysteriously, and is mentioned in the 2004 BCP.

Solemn Eucharist 11 a.m.

Our celebration for St. Patrick’s Day includes some Irish language elements in the liturgy. We will be singing some parts from Sean O’Riada’s Mass and we will be saying Ár nAthair together. Everyone welcome.

There will be a bring and share lunch after the Eucharist, just let us know if you'd like to come along.

Solemn Eucharist 11 a.m.

Paul wrote to the Corinthians, “The message about the Cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God”.
