Today’s Gospel reading is one of the best known of Jesus’ parables. It is known as the ‘Parable of the Prodigal Son’, or the ‘Parable of the Two Sons’. It ends with these words: ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. But we had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and has now come to life; he was lost and has been found’. The love of the Father for his children is also prodigal, it is given away freely and generously.
